PARTY: Dixie Tavern's Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest

Most folks have experienced the unfortunate event of receiving a horrid holiday sweater as a gift. It's enough to leave you wondering just how you got on the naughty list, or on a list even lower than naughty, since you got this instead of a lump of coal. But, for those of you who felt obligated to keep the dreadful unworn sweater, it now has a purpose, that is, thanks to Dixie's Tavern. The bar will host an Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest on Dec. 19. Prizes will be awarded in categories for "Ugliest Guy's Sweater" and "Ugliest Girl's Sweater." So, if you still have that ugly sweater, throw it on. If not, hit up your local thrift store for an assortment of holiday sweater rejects. In addition, during the festivities free draft beer and an appetizer buffet will be available, as well as drink specials and other prizes (including tickets to Dixie's Tavern's New Year's Eve party and free gift certificates). 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Dixie's Tavern, 301 E. 7th St. www.dixiecharlotte.com.
