Peter and the Starcatcher

This Broadway production, a prequel to Peter Pan, has already scored five Tony Awards. The script, written by Rick Elice, is based off the novel written by Dave Barry with Ridley Pearson, and, of course, inspired by James M. Barrie’s beloved children’s book. In other words, the fantasyland that you know is probably going to be a little different in this adaptation. That’s not to say that you won’t feel that same sense of adventure and suspense. In the play, you get “Peter,” aka Boy, who starts out as an orphaned kid who dislikes his elders. This is not the Peter with anti-aging and flying powers — at least not at first. The play features a backstory explaining how he became an immortal adolescent. Molly (“Wendy”) catches Boy’s eye, while Black Stache fills the role of a younger version of the pirate Hook, who we’ve come to know as both clumsy and ruthless. Hardy har har. (Anita Overcash)
