Play Exceeds Speed Limit

Thursday, August 9

Buckle up, Charlotte! Carolina Actors Studio Theatre is inviting the world into its sexy hexagonal surround theater, where they're promising to take us for a multimedia spin on Neil LaBute's Autobahn. Don't let the title fool you: all seven interlocking scenes take place in an automobile, described by LaBute as the "most American of spaces." CAST director Michael Simmons will wrap the live stage production in pre-filmed footage, simulating motion through the front windshield, the rearview, and both the driver's and passenger's sides. Anybody who saw their recent edition of American Buffalo already knows that CAST is back on top of their technical game. Fully equipped with road kill, this American odyssey maintains cruising speed through September 8 with Fuel Pizza Fridays offering free feed. Thu-Sat, 8 p.m. $22/$20. Carolina Actors Studio Theatre, 1118 Clement Ave. 704-455-8542.
