Real Life Top 5: Andy Kastanas

Real Life Top 5

Andy Kastanas

Andy Kastanas is a DJ, Billboard Dance Chart reporter, club owner and restaurateur. When he's not spinning records he's watching silent movies and cooking. He thinks Sergio Leone is a god. Andy wouldn't make a big deal of it here, but we will: If it weren't for his creative energy and commitment, downtown Charlotte wouldn't jump like it does today. Want an idea of what's been whirling around AK's head lately? Take five:

1. Roger Sanchez, "Lost" (Dean Coleman Mix). "New, slinky, hot summer house. Dean Coleman is one of the hottest producers breaking big on the dance scene."

2. New Order, Waiting for the Siren's Call. "An album that takes me backward and forward at the same time can't be bad."

3. The Trammps, Trammps. "OK, I'm not technically listening, since this is a 1975 sealed debut album which I can't bring myself to open. I recently uncovered this at Central Records, but the Philly soul sound is always in my head."

4. Ennio Morricone, Soundtracks. "Remember The Good The Bad and the Ugly? This man has written most of the Spaghetti Western soundtracks out there, and has created the sound of an era. Yeah, I'm listening."

5. David Bowie, "Space Oddity." "A Saturday

morning 'School of Rock' highlight -- I'm teaching my daughter about glam rock and NASA with one song."

That's NASA, dear reader, not NASCAR. Silly rabbit!
