Wednesday, December 20

A new exhibit at the Levine Museum for the New South is sure to spark conversation. "Families of Abraham" explores commonalities and distinctions between three major faiths -- Christianity, Judaism and Islam ˆ that claim Abraham as a spiritual ancestor. This photographic narrative follows the daily life and religious practices of 11 Jewish, Christian or Muslims families from the Charlotte area for a year. Exhibit runs through May 6. Visit www.museumofnewsouth.org or call 704-333-1887 for more information. -- Karen Shugart

Gather by the fireside, boys and girls, and turn your radio dials to OKKK. It's Tuna time! Carolina Actor's Studio Theatre is hauling in a fresh new production of A Tuna Christmas, and you can catch it at McGlohon Theatre through Dec. 31. Tom Olson and Paul Spadafora bring you OKKK's emcees, Arles Struvie and Thurston Wheelis, and the rest of the trashy folk of Tuna, third smallest town in Texas. Watching Olson and Spadafora morph into the other dimwits, misfits, delinquents, nuts, sluts, and dwarves of Tuna -- quick costume changes are a must! -- is the keenest part of this hilarious favorite, directed by Michael Simmons, CL's reigning Theatreperson of the Year. Evenings at 8 p.m. on Dec. 21-23 and 27-30, with added 2 p.m. matinees on Dec. 24 and 31. Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 for students/seniors. Call 704-372-1000. -- Perry Tannenbaum

The poster for Charlotte-based rockers The Noises 10 declares, "Don't be a jerk!" A holiday sentiment shared by the thousands fighting for discounts at the mall even as I write this. Don't be a jerk. It's Christmas ( ... or Chanukah, or Solstice ... ) and the one time of the year when wanting peace on earth does not automatically put you on Bush's hit list of traitors. So, don't be a jerk, and support a local rock group that will donate half of the proceeds of tonight's show to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The Noises 10 plays at the Visulite Theatre with The Sammies tonight at 9 p.m. -- Natalie Howard

Add a dash of Malian influence to the tune of Asheville musicianship and the end result will most likely be Toubab Krewe. The year-old quartet's frequent trips to West Africa have spawned a brand of Afrorock that's been featured at Bonnaroo and the JFK Center. Come by the Neighborhood Theatre tonight to experience a sonic journey outside the norm culled from the teachings of people like Vieux Kante, Madou Dembele and Koungbanan Conde. Dubconscious will open. For more ticket prices and times, log onto www.neighborhoodtheatre.com. -- Calloway

Maybe Disney isn't as overrated as we thought. The cast of the Emmy award-winning Disney Channel movie High School Musical will be dropping through to perform hit songs off their certified triple platinum soundtrack. In the movie, the lead characters bring inspiration to their peers by pursuing their dreams despite opposition from their friends. The concert, held at the Bobcats Arena, is sure to inspire just as much, if not more. The show starts at 4 p.m. Check www.charlottebobcatsarena.com for ticket info. -- Kimberly Lawson

"Only thing that keeps me up when I'm feeling down..." is knowing that there are a few cats out there who can appreciate a good woman. Not to say Bow Wow (formerly Lil Bow Wow ) is definitely one of them, but his latest hit "Shortie Like Mine" is one of the hottest rap singles out. Check him out as he fleshes out the flavor on his new album The Price of Fame at Ovens Auditorium. 7:30 p.m. is the time, $34.50 is the ticket price. www.ticketmaster.com. -- Lawson
