Sensoria CL Recommends

When: April 12-20 2013
Price: Most events are free
More arts! More arts! It seems a bit like Sensoria — a nine-day-long celebration of visual arts, film, music, literature, history and culture-related events — is the answer to threatening demands from Charlotteans looking to be entertained at Central Piedmont Community College. But, really, the folks in charge of the annual event are just that good — they know Charlotteans want diversified quality arts, no pressure or pitchforks needed. Highlights of year's festivities include CPCC Opera Theatre's Dialogues of the Carmelites, a three-act opera set in the horrific backdrop of the French Revolution; playwright August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Fences, a drama about a black man's struggle with going from baseball league star to a garbage man; the Joe Bonham Art Exhibit, showcasing illustrations of wounded veterans by combat artists; and Women in Film: Documentaries on the American Justice System, screening Therese Bartholomew's The Final Gift, a documentary shot during the course of Bartholomew’s seven-year pursuit to find closure to her brother’s murder and come face to face with his killer in a South Carolina prison. What else, you ask? We don't have the space here to tell you, but a quick visit to sensoria.cpcc.edu/events, will fill you in on all your options. Prices/times/locations vary. For more information, call 704-330-6534 or visit tix.cpcc.edu.
