Re: “Close the damn post office already!

The writing has been on the wall for over a decade now. The number of workers at the post office has fallen from almost a million to just over 600,000 during the last ten years. Losing 35,000 workers would seem to simply continue the current trend. At some point having all of these extra workers is like paying someone to dig holes and then covering them up 8 hours a day. Lots of work was done but nothing productive resulted.

Would we consider it a waste to manufacture buggy whips? Maybe these individuals could contribute more to society by producing something different?

Re: “Four-year-olds win, Tea Party loses

I would be for the education if it actually worked but studies have shown over and over again that pre-k gains are completely lost by the 2nd or third grade. One of the highest scoring nations in the world does not start school until the age of 7 if I remember correctly. Any money should be diverted to educating troubled children that are a few years older.

Re: “Undocumented Latinos 'come out'

Citizenship is not something that should be just handed out willy nilly especially as the result of a crime, not that being brought here was the child's crime. I think joining the military for 4-8 years would be a worthy contribution to our society but going to college is really a self serving act. If they served 8 years in the military they could be rewarded with a semi free ride to college. If illegals want to get serious about becomming an American citizen then they need to put something serious on the table to earn it.

Illegals may be forced to the back if the line at college but what would you say to an actual citizen that would be displaced by an illegal?

Obama could have passed the dream act in 2009 when he had a super majority. Now with a split congress he will simply blame others for what he decided not to do himself.

I hope a reasonable law is passed but I am afraid election year politics will not allow this to happen.

Re: “Mecklenburg County Commissioner Bill James confronts our pro-gay rights blogging

The government is supposed to protect the rights of the minority from the will of an oppressive majority. This is not the 1960s but people should have the same rights within reasonable limits.
