SLAM!: MAKE NOISE B-BOYS

Converging from all over the world, artists of every skill, style and vocabulary will embark on a quest to capture the Individual World Poetry Slam title. I don't really know that much about poetry. I'm still in the "Roses are red, violets are blue" field. But I can remember the feeling that runs down my spine every time I watch Love Jones and Larenz Tate's Darius Lovehall recites "A Blues For Nina." If the 60 competitors coming here to spit and love their way to the title even come close to that poem, then it's on. It starts Wed., Feb. 1, at the Breakfast Club, 225 N. Caldwell St., for the Wild Card Slam and Open Mic. Then it's on to Spirit Square, 345 N. College St, on Thurs., Feb. 2, for Preliminary Bouts #1-6. Bouts #7-12 continue at Spirit Square on Fri., Feb. 3, as well as the Finals, Sat., Feb. 4. Tickets are available at www.blumenthalcenter.org. For event info visit www.iwps2006.com.
