Slow down

Ever feel like there are cops everywhere and they're just waiting for you to drive too fast?

Well, you might be right.

Certain roads in Charlotte are speed traps. Maybe it's the officers trying to reach their alleged ticket quota or maybe it's about saving a life.

If you just have to speed, then these are the roads you need to avoid:

• East Independence Boulevard near the Eastway Drive exit (watch out for the motorcycle officer).

• Rea Road near Trader Joe's and the library (keep an eye out for the unmarked car).

• Fairview Road at Colony Road

• Shamrock Drive between North Sharon Amity and Eastway Drive (cops hide in the blind spot).

• Woodlawn Road at South Boulevard (police usually sit at the day care center).

While we at Creative Loafing aren't urging you to speed down the Queen City's streets, it doesn't hurt to know where the cops are lurking.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
