How much do you know about Charlotte's past? Well, if you read CL's "Street Stories," then you're aware that Mint Street was named after The Charlotte Mint that processed the gold found here, technically, Little Meadow Creek in Cabarrus County. In other road news and sure to become a part of Charlotte history, Second Street was renamed "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard" last Monday. One day pictures of the momentous occasion when one of the shortest streets in the city was named for the Nobel Peace Prize winner will be included as a potential street scene for the next Share Your Photos Day, along with neighborhood events, buildings, class portraits, prominent Charlotteans, debutante balls, yada, yada and yada. You get the idea. Copies will be made so you can keep the originals. Sheila Bumgarner of PLCMC's Carolina Room and Levine Museum historian Tom Hanchett will discuss the findings. Participants are asked to meet at the Duke Mansion, 400 Hermitage Road, Sunday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. Call 704-714-4448.
