Patterns and color play defining roles in Detroit-artist Margi Weir's contemporary tapestry-like works. Straying from the traditional means of storytelling, she often uses computers to build a repetition of images that are then stitched together in stacked formation. While they’re decorative, they're also embedded with a deep emphasis on ecology, sociopolitical landscapes and the "American dream.' Her solo exhibit, Social Fabrics, features fresh, new fiber works like these, in addition to a series of ink and wash drawings based on the artist's fascination with dilapidated and ruined buildings across the U.S. Reception on April 18, 6 p.m.
