Spank! is a musical that’s riding the waves of success — specifically from E.L. James’ trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey — however wet and extreme they may be. The hilarious production uses satire, improv and music to parody the erotic romance novels, and is returning to Charlotte for a six-show run. Having made its debut back in February of this year, we can anticipate more moms and 30-somethings to dominate much of the audience, as seen the last go-round. We can also expect the affair between protagonists Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey to be less steamy and more silly, as the production plays on the absurdities of the books, their author and readers. Really, it’s just too funny for any fan to hate on.
