SPECIAL EVENT: A Novello Evening with Khaled Hosseini

Wednesday, Oct. 15

As best-selling author Khaled Hosseini books it to Charlotte for A Novello Evening with Khaled Hosseini, you've got to get out of the house and over to Ovens Auditorium. Known for his literary works The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini's taking the time out of his day to be interviewed by Mike Collins (WFAE, 90.7). Whether you're a book nut and have read the guy or you've just seen the film version of The Kite Runner (and it made you cry), Hosseini will line your mind with big thoughts. $15-$35. 7 p.m. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 East Independence Blvd. 704-522-6500. www.ticketmaster.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
