Special Event: Julienned info

Saturday, Feb. 9

And the hits just keep on coming ... by that, I mean thieves hitting you in the wallet through identity theft. It's become one of the fastest growing crimes in America with nearly 25 million suffering from the aftereffects. Shred-it Charlotte and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department hope to dwindle those numbers, at least locally. That's why they're hosting the Fourth Annual Identity Theft Awareness and Free Shredding Event. Reps from both organizations will accept personal documents that you want destroyed in secure on-site mobile shredders. 9 a.m. -- 1 p.m. Parking lot in front of the Food Court, SouthPark, 4400 Sharon Rd. 704-424-5997. www.shredit.com/charlotte.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
