Speed Street invades Uptown

Plenty of bands, and a lot more, will invade downtown this week for the annual Food Lion Speed Street event.

Aside from a number of NASCAR drivers making appearances at the free event, a handful of bands will be performing. Seether, Flyleaf and Kellie Pickler are among the acts set to perform on Friday. Chevelle and Travis Tritt will perform on Saturday

There are also a handful of local and area acts scheduled to perform including The Modern Skirts, Swampdawamp, The Young Sons and U-Neek Flavur.

You can find more information, including schedules at www.600festival.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
