SPOKEN WORD: International Poetry Night 

Friday, April 23

Expand your cultural diversity tonight as the International House presents its International Poetry Night. The spoken word event -- hosted by Jonathan K. Rice, editor of Iodine Poetry Journal -- will feature Chinese, Iranian, Nigerian, Polish, Spanish performers, among others. In addition, an open mic will follow. Proceeds raised will support International House. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited.   • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
