Stargazer

For the week of October 8th, 2003

For All Signs This is a stressful month for many, globally as well as individually. It could very well represent the fulcrum of whether or not we choose to care for this planet as our collective home. Saturn, representing material reality of resources is on one side of the earth. It is opposite Chiron, which symbolizes healing through healthy management of all resources. As individuals, we can be most productive if we relax our defensive position and open our minds to alternative viewpoints.

Aries The full moon is in your sign on the 10th and Venus is in your corner this week. The symbols suggest love, romance, and gifts or other helpful resources coming your way. You may be intensely focused on education or something else you want very badly.

Taurus This is a highly favorable week in love, romance, social life, and partnerships. You are open to try new things, seek out new people, and go to unusual places. If money is an issue, leave the credit cards at home or you may spend too freely.

Gemini Wear your track shoes for the next few weeks. You're moving in the fast lane. You are likely to play the role of negotiator between opponents who are dead set on their own objectives. Your innate ability to see issues objectively has never been more important than now.

Cancer This is not the best of weeks to enter into a contract or make drastic changes around your home and property. Your judgment may be clouded by negative energy. You could be obsessing over old history, which is preventing you from seeing things clearly in the present.

Leo You have an opportunity this week to generate self-improvement through learning better means or methods of speaking and communicating with others. Relationship(s) with children, lovers, roommates and/or siblings will be given a revitalizing shot of energy.

Virgo This is the week to "balance the books," and that may be understood in more ways than one. You have a pivotal role in the issue of balancing two factions in the family or among friends. It will require all the tact and diplomacy you can muster.

Libra This is a wonderful time to talk over your relationship with your significant other. You will likely be in sync and can enjoy this time of sharing. The romance factor is high. Those on a flexible income will enjoy an "up" period.

Scorpio Venus enters your sign this week and will be traveling "with you." Her presence gives you an air of beauty, and people will simply like how you look. Often when Venus is prominent we become more interested in art forms. Love life will be anything but boring!

Sagittarius We have to face the fact that sometimes the Archer can be arrogant and opinionated. This is a time in which your ego may be enmeshed with your attitudes. Make an effort to remember that what you think/believe is not all of who you are.

Capricorn Someone is scratching away at old wounds in your heart. You may do well to break contact with that individual, but if this is not possible, find a trusted person who can help you to heal. The inner critic may be echoing what you hear from the outside. Don't listen.

Aquarius This would be a great week to pack a bag and blow away the usual routine by going somewhere altogether different. For those who can't be quite so spontaneous, the aspects favor legal interests, the Internet, and all forms of education.

Pisces Your warrior energy is strong this week, which is unusual for the sweet Piscean. You are likely to be pursuing a desired objective, and damn the torpedoes! Aspects favor love life, travel, Internet activities, educational pursuits and legal interests.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
