Stargazer

For the week of December 17

For All Signs On Dec. 17 Mercury shifted to retrograde motion in Sagittarius and will remain so beyond the end of the year, making a pitstop in Capricorn. It is interesting to note that at the beginning of 2003 it was also retrograding in Capricorn. This suggests we will see some type of recapitulation of political events from that period.

Please note that this week's horoscope will cover two weeks. Next week's column is reserved for a Christmas message.

Aries There will be no rest for the Rams through the holiday season. You will be rushing from one thing to the next, as quickly as you can move. Love and gifts of beauty will be prominent. Drive carefully. There is a lot on your mind and you may be distracted.

Taurus You will be right upfront and on stage everywhere you go during this period. Relationship(s) have ups and a few downs, but this is primarily a highly social time. Information that comes your way regarding work around the 30th may be false.

Gemini This is a particularly challenging time to make decisions. Every time you think you have something settled, new information changes the picture. Don't let anyone push you to a final conclusion until you feel truly ready. Try not to take things so seriously.

Cancer Some type of trial is occurring in your life at this time. There may be a controversy in your family or among close associates. It appears people are choosing sides and it is up to you to remain calm, sane, and unmoved in the midst of the fray.

Leo Confusion or misunderstandings which occur early in this period will quickly be settled and peace restored with important persons. The week following Christmas is characterized by any word beginning with "re," such as return, repair, redo.

Virgo Children, lovers, and party-goers in your life just can't seem to settle on a plan and neither can you. Everything depends on everything else and it is hard to determine where it begins. Decide what is most important to you and make your plans in spite of the general chaos.

Libra From the 21st forward, your work-oriented, dour mood shifts to one of play and relaxation. Social and family plans have a way of evolving on short notice, so be prepared for last minute changes. Romance has its ups and downs, but mostly you'll enjoy "ups."

Scorpio If you happen to be traveling during these holidays, give yourself plenty of time for delays and last minute changes in schedule. Others coming your way may encounter the same. You'll have a need to reestablish order around you before the New Year holiday.

Sagittarius It appears that minor travel may be on the agenda, or someone may be coming your way. This particular holiday season is pleasant, but not one of your most notable in life. The New Year holiday may bring contacts from those you haven't seen in a long while.Capricorn Mercury retrograding in your sign will take you back to places you have been before, either in your body or your memory. Travelers, give yourselves plenty of time for delays. Take especially good care of your health during this period. You are in a low physical cycle.

Aquarius Venus, goddess of romance and beauty, enters your sign on the 21st and will be with you well into January. Throughout this period you will be attracting more people and social situations than is the norm. You have a temptation to overdo a good thing near New Year's Eve.

Pisces Take advantage of the stability and pleasure offered by the ending 10 days of December. It may be your last time of quietude for awhile! Love life will be romantic and beautiful gifts come your way. Friends and associates have a hard time settling on a plan.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
