Stargazer

For the week of January 19, 2005

For All Signs There are three modes of being represented in the zodiac of 12 signs: cardinal, fixed, and mutable. The fixed signs are: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. They have their conflicts, but one thing these signs agree upon is the value of perseverance. The fixed signs are the most prone to complete tasks and can generally be counted upon to take their own sweet time while doing so. Often known as stubborn, they share a relentless pursuit of quality and truth. Next week we will review the “mutable” signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Aries During this period you are actively involved in communications, travel, publishing, education or the internet. The aspects appear favorable and you will find help whenever you seek it. Relationships with friends, associates and significant other(s) are strong and supportive.

Taurus You have favorable aspects concerning travel, the law, education, publishing, or dealing with people from a distance (a la the internet, for example). Coworkers and in-laws may be especially supportive at this time. Think before you flip out the credit card.

Gemini You have conflicting aspects this week. One of them suggests you are flying high with optimism, while the other suggests you are looking at things through a dark lens. You could be doing both or you may have someone else playing one of the roles while you play the other.

Cancer During this week and next you can expect surprises from any sector at any time. The main feature is “surprise.” The second feature is that it is somehow related to old history or to people you have known in your past. You may be focusing attention on the issue of security these days.

Leo For the next month much of your attention will be on “others.” Partnerships are generally favored by this arrangement, because you will be searching for the “fair” solution in any dilemma. Seek consultation from professionals if you need it.

Virgo Issues concerning children and/or creative ventures may weigh heavily upon you at this time. Your tendency is toward a negative attitude that may not be altogether realistic. This is one of those times when your Inner Critic is on the loose.

Libra Aspects this week are highly favorable. A proposal or suggestion made to you in early November is approaching a time of fruition. Activities shared with your partner or a loved one are pleasurable, and there is a focus on the arts or music.

Scorpio Now is a time when money or other resources are given freely to you as gifts of the cosmos. You, in turn, can be generous in passing on the good fortune, in whatever way you choose. When such presents are dropped in one’s lap, it is always wise to pass them along.

Sagittarius Good feelings and optimism prevail over the week and you are flying high. Travel, education, and communications are priorities now. Somehow the new activities are helping you to redefine yourself before the world. If money is an issue, leave credit cards at home.

Capricorn The Critic is on the loose this week. It could be attacking you from inside or alternatively, captious of someone else. Either way, the lens is much darker than reality. Do your best to set it aside and do not make decisions according to this faultfinding devil.

Aquarius The sun returns “home” to your sign this week. You likely will find it to be energizing. Focus on new plans for this next year of your life. Take a fresh look at where you want to direct your energy. Direct attention toward yourself and your goals right now.

Pisces If ever you were in the mood for play and debauchery, this is it. You are up for anything different and unusual that comes along. You may even mildly shock a few people. Those who have applied for a loan are approved. Business is better in general.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
