Re: “What is the best grocery store in the Charlotte area?

Comments regarding the entire Charlotte grocery scene:

Bi-Lo has the best rewards program: not just special prices, but also discounts on gas (5 cents a gallon for every $50 spent).

If you want the best prices at Harris Teeter, sign up for their e-Vic alerts. These are (literally) unadvertised specials. They don't even show up on store displays (as do the "regular" Vic prices). You only know about them if you get the e-Vic alerts.

Want the best prices? Shop ALL the ads, and don't overlook non-food retailers such as Dollar General and Walgreen's. Their regular prices are obscene, but their specials on many food items (cereal, coffee, sometimes milk) beat grocery retailers.

Too bad the parent company of Wonder Bread went bankrupt. I miss their bakery outlets--best prices on bread and doughnuts!

Best strategy: shop the ads, then go to ALDI first--you won't find everything you need there, but most of what they have costs less than at other stores. Fastest checkout lanes by far. Then hit the other stores.

Avoid Wal-Mart if at all possible. Slowest checkout lanes. They need to see how ALDI does it, then do it the same as ALDI. You can avoid the slow checkouts at Wal-Mart if you go to automotive or electronics (well-kept secret).
