Smoothies, wine and food, food, food

JUNE 4 -- Ninety-nine Cent Smoothie Day. Head to Planet Smoothie on the first Wednesday of each month for a 99-cent smoothie. During this special deal, different "lifestyle" smoothies will be offered. This Wednesday's smoothie is Spazz from the energy lifestyle category. JUNE 6 -- Hops & Vine Event. Enjoy an evening of wine tastings from Constellation Wines and E. & J. Gallo Winery, as well as ales from Sierra Nevada Ales. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Fig Tree Restaurant. The event is in memory of Brandon Elam, a 16-year-old who lost his battle with cancer last year. JUNE 6-8 -- Lowes Foods Taste of Charlotte. If your eyes are bigger than your stomach, watch out! Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Taste of Charlotte gives Charlotteans the opportunity to sample eats (over 110 menu items) from more than 35 restaurants.   • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site.
