Sweet Dreams

Tuesday, November 27

Charlotte is set to premiere Martin McDonagh's dark, Olivier-winning play. The Pillowman centers on the problems of a writer whose stories seem to imitate real-life ... to a T. The plot sweeps from the land in the author's imaginative, yet shadowy fairy tales and his interrogation in the present. A lot of hot-buttons culled from current feelings are tackled, including censorship, freedom of speech and the power of the state. 8 p.m. $15. Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St. 704-342-2251 x1.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
