Talking SmackDown

Tuesday, June 19

Twenty years too late to see my ex-marine gym teacher thrown out of the ring for beating down Jake the Snake in a wrestling audition, but just in time to see a new generation of beefed up madmen duke it out to the dramatic end. WWE presents Smackdown and the ECW featuring Kane, Edge, Batista, Chris Benoit and many more in all out live brawls. Watch out for flying chairs. 6:30 p.m. $20-$70. Charlotte Bobcats Arena, 333 E. Trade St. 704-522-6500.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
