The Best of Jim Hunt

A rough year for the rest of us is good news for our cartoonist

So you think the past year was a bummer, huh? Well, for some -- art lovers, progressives, Panther fans, gay couples, businesses dependent on USAirways, and lots more -- 2004 was a serious dud. Don't say that to Creative Loafing editorial cartoonist Jim Hunt, though. The worse things get, the more moronic our "leaders" behave, the more hypocrisy gets tossed around, the more he likes it. Well, at least from the standpoint of giving him plenty to work with. In 2004, Hunt had a field day, lampooning everyone from parade organizers and Catholic bishops, to airlines and rapper Bobcat partners, in addition to the usual suspects. Here is a selection of Jim's cartoons we published during the past year.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
