The Blotter

Bizarre crimes from Charlotte police files

HOW NOT TO STEAL: A man stole a bottle of Viader Cabernet, valued at $100, from a wine store. A short while later, he came back to the store ... hoping to get a refund.

PEOPLE WHO TEXT TOO MUCH: Two people began harassing a man by phone and by text message. They told him, "We are coming there to beat your ass and kill you!" and "I know where you live. I know how to find you!" As a result, police now know how to find him.

THIS WEEK'S EX EMPLOYEE-OF-THE-MONTH: An angry employee of a DVD rental chain store damaged several DVD racks and threatened a woman's life. Damage to the video racks totaled $1,000.

WALL ART: A woman called police after a family member (presumably a child) marked up her bedroom wall with a marker and glue. The family member had been angry because she was told to go to bed.

GOLDILOCKS GONE AWRY: A man found some guy he didn't know asleep on his couch at about 4 a.m. The somnolent intruder, clad only in boxer shorts, was removed from the house by officers.

THREAT OF THE WEEK: A woman told police that a man phoned her about 300 times in more than two months, even though she's asked him repeatedly to stop calling. Though he made no threats of bodily harm, he did tell her, "If I can't have you, no one can have you."

Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte Police Department.
