The Blotter

Bizarre crimes from the Charlotte police reports

DRIVE-BY DRINK: A man was standing off an exit ramp at Woodlawn Road and I-77 when someone threw a soft drink at him while driving by. The man, drenched with soda, walked up the ramp and jotted down the person's tag number.

BOOK SENSE: A man walked into the CPCC bookstore and pulled new books from the shelves. He then walked to the book buy-back clerk and sold the books back to the store after claiming he'd already bought the books, valued at $839. In a separate instance, a woman tried the same tactic with books worth $981.

EVERYDAY LOW STEALING: A Wal-Mart employee was accused to embezzling more than $3,500 from the South Tryon Street location.

HOTEL IMPERSONATOR: So two guys are at a restaurant when one says he's been drinking and he lives out of town. The other one says he's got a hotel room at the Marriott because he's been drinking. But then he sobers up, so he gives the hotel room confirmation number to the other guy. That guy uses it, runs up a $1,800 tab and leaves the hotel without paying.

GROWN FOLKS STUFF: A 26-year-old woman told police her father choked her and pushed her to the ground "for no reason" when she tried to walk away from an argument on a Tuesday afternoon. She told police her pinky finger was hurt, but didn't want medical attention.

CUSHION THIEVERY: An east Charlotte woman complained that the cushions and throw pillows to her outdoor furniture, valued at $500, were stolen. A man nearby told police he'd also had his cushions stolen that same night.

LESSON OF THE WEEK: If you're going to shoplift, leave your crack pipes at home. A man was arrested after taking three cans of sardines from a convenience store. A employee tried to stop him on the way out, so the suspect pushed him into the exit doors. He was quickly found with the $5.79 food goodies and two pipes.
