The Blotter

Man vs beast: Pulling into his driveway, a man parked his truck and tried to exit his vehicle. Before he could get one foot on the ground, the man was attacked by a pit bull. The wound-up canine then ran into the backyard and harassed the man's dogs. The pit bull began to charge at the dogs. The man tried to intervene, but the pit bull charged at the man again. Proving why humans are the ultimate predator, the man pulled out a pistol and shot the ornery beast in the back. The pit bull fled the yard. The report did not indicate the extent of the pit bull's injury or if the beast was named something appropriate like Killer.

Dog crimes come in pairs: In the lobby of an apartment complex, a woman was with her dog when her canine received a threat. A nearby man said, "If the dog gets near me, I'm going to hurt him." The woman, not the doggy, filed the report.

Scariest threat of all-time: A 20-year-old woman called police to report harassing phone calls. Harassing is an understatement. In one of the 28 threatening calls, the female caller said: "Bitch, when I see you I'm going to kill you, and I'm going to beat you to death. I'm going to shoot up your mommy's house. I'm going to shoot you in the face." While the young lady was sitting on the front porch, the suspected phone harasser appeared in person. She drove by the house, slowed down and pointed a gun at the porch sitter. No shots were fired.

Grab ass: At a popular 7th Street bar on a Saturday night, a guy and his friend were wading through the packed crowd with open palms. The terrible twosome were accused of grabbing a girl's buttocks. Unbeknownst to the boys, the girl was with her boyfriend. She told her boyfriend what happened, and the boyfriend was none too pleased. He hit the groper over the head with a beer bottle causing a two-inch gash over the victim's left eye, requiring stitches. Police arrested only the boyfriend, not the groper, which goes to show you that it's the one who retaliates that does the time.

Blotter items are chosen from the files of the Charlotte Police Department.
