The Iran Job

Filmed just a few months before Iran’s Green Movement — a rally launched by protesters who were fed up with having Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in office — The Iran Job is a documentary that’s as much about basketball as it is about the social and political climate in the country. The film follows professional hoop-shooter Kevin Sheppard, who was invited to play for the A.S. Shiraz team in the Iranian Super League. Given the hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, the doc sheds light on the various opinions from ordinary people in Iran rather than the government. This 2012 film screens as part of Cornelius Arts Center’s new Indies + Docs series.
