The Naked Arts Presents Sean Gaskell- West African Kora (Harp) player

Seattle based musician Sean Gaskell plays the West African Kora. The 21 string harp is native to the Mandinka people of Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau. It came into existence sometime during the mid 1700's. Gaskell studied the Kora in Gambia under the instruction of Malamini Jobarteh and Moriba Kuyateh over multiple visits. Much of the music gives praise to warlords and people of high political status in Mandinka society from centuries past. "Sean's playing and singing are right on when it comes to traditional Mandinka style. Very nice indeed!" -Rod Knight, Ethnomusicologist, Oberlin College- Ohio.
