THEATER: 1, 2, 3 ... night stands

THURSDAY, AUG. 14

Rock on, party animals! Actor's Theatre of Charlotte promises you an evening of mindless merriment as they premiere the new improved version of SLUT, the rock musical inspired by South Park and bent on booty. The salacious tuner was a sell-out hit at the 2003 International Fringe Fest in New York with an off-Broadway run two years later. Now the tag team of composer Stephen Sislen and lyricist/dramatist Ben Winters have tuned up the original script and added new songs. They're bringing their celebration of one-night stands to Charlotte to see how the new playlist plays at Actor's Theatre of Charlotte through August 23. $25. 8 p.m. Aug. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23; Additional performance on Aug. 13, "Pay What You Can Night." Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 E. Stonewall St. 704-342-2251. www.actorstheatrecharlotte.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
