Working as an elf at a Macy's department store during the holidays may have been one of the best things author/comedian David Sedaris ever did. After all, it led to a big break, as he was asked to read his essay "SantaLand Diaries" on National Public Radio's Morning Edition. Sedaris went on to release national bestsellers such as Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim and When You Are Engulfed in Flames. His latest book, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, was released on Sept. 28 and he's currently on tour in support of it. Sedaris will make a stop at Belk Theater tonight for his satire shenanigans and a Q&A session. Book signing to follow. $25. 7:30 p.m. Belk Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.blumenthalcenter.org.
