THEATER: Evita

Wednesday, May 5

Just imagining Queen City Theatre Company's upcoming performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera, Evita, my head buzzes with the catchy sensation: "Don't cry for me Argentina." If you're anything like me, you're probably singing it already. Based on the story of Eva Perón -- the first lady of Argentina -- who was surprisingly adored, loathed and feared during a time period when power and women didn't typically go hand in hand, this classic is a must-see. Under the direction of QCTC's Glenn T. Griffin, the musical will include a mix of songs, ranging in genres such as Latin, pop, tango and jazz. Some will be sung in Spanish, and as an extra feature, the popular tune "You Must Love Me" (from the film version of Evita with Madonna) is being incorporated into the musical. Ahhh, I'm singing again! For more information, visit www.queencitytheatre.com. $18-$28.
