THEATER: How I Learned to Drive

Thursday, March 19

The Davidson Community Players have taken a courageous step by choosing a production with very serious subject matter. How I Learned to Drive, written by Paula Vogel, will be shown at the Armour Street Theatre. This Pulitzer-Prize-winning play tackles the difficult issue of sexual abuse, particularly pedophilia. In the story, the protagonist Li'l Bit recalls her seven-year relationship with her Uncle Peck. The effects of this horrific experience prove life-changing for Li'l Bit, but it's not all bad. Vogel incorporates humor and triumph throughout the play, making it well worth the drive. Mature audiences only. Through March 29. $15-$17. March 19-21, 8 p.m.; March 22, 2 p.m.; March 26-28, 8 p.m.; March 29, 2 p.m. Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour St., Davidson. 704-892-7918.
