Theater: Love kills

Thursday, Jan. 31

In Verdi's operatic masterpiece Aida, forbidden love is put front and center when Egyptian soldier Radamés falls for the enslaved Ethiopian princess, Aida. Alas, this is a tragic love story and our pair's fate lies in the hands of the gods. Still, witness the splendor of ancient Africa brought to life with live wildlife from the continent and a cast of over 200 people, even a watusi. Never heard on one before? Google the term and spot it during the show. Be sure to catch this beautiful production while you can. Only three more performances remain. 7:30 p.m. $15-$95. Belk Theater, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.operacarolina.org.
