THEATER: Man of La Mancha at CPCC

Sunday, Oct. 4

The act of dreams "taking over" one's mind might seem like quite a scary thing, that is, without a bit of a balance with reality. In CPCC Theatre's latest production, Man of La Mancha -- a play-within-a-play based on Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote -- an old man grows weak, while his dreams grow strong. And, though it seems like a depressing scenario, it may just be the greatest adventure of this man's life. Better late than never, right? $16-$18. 2:30 p.m. CPCC's Halton Theater, 1206 Elizabeth Ave. 704-330-6534. www.arts.cpcc.edu.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
