THEATER: My First Time

Friday, Jan. 15

It's all about sex, in Theatre 650's productions of My First Time at Actor's Theatre of Charlotte. The play, written by Ken Davenport and directed by Chip Decker, is a comedy about folks' first sexual experiences, as shared on the Web site www.myfirsttime.com. At each show, audience members will also be able to participate, by completing an anonymous survey about their own "first time," before the show. Someone will also get the pleasure -- or pain -- of what they wrote being shared to the crowd. One thing's for sure: this could get very interesting, and surely it'll be a banging good time. Appropriate for ages 18 and up. Continues through Jan. 17. $25. Jan. 15-16, 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.; Jan. 17, 2:30 p.m. Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, 650 East Stonewall St. 704-342-2251. www.actorstheatrecharlotte.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
