THEATER: Spooky Dog and the Teen-age Gang Mysteries

Thursday, Feb. 5

Scooby-dooby-doo! This one's for cartoon fanatics and pastime childhood junkies alike: Queen City Theatre Company promises you an evening of adventurous and maybe even a little preposterous theatrics as they premiere Spooky Dog and the Teen-age Gang Mysteries, a parody of Saturday morning cartoons (Scooby Doo included!) for adults only. Written by Eric Pliner and Amy Rhodes and directed by Glenn T. Griffin, the show features familiar characters (and I really do mean characters) including a butch, blond frat boy, a brainy chick armed with a flashlight, a girly girl in a short skirt, a hungry hippie and a talking dog, too. They're all on a quest to find their missing friend but in the process are forced into facing the ghost of a dead country singer, a bad fortune teller and a sinister couple. Could it get any worse? Yeah, I guess so. In the process they've got their own pivotal problems of bulging sexual desires, dog-treat addictions and plenty more. Through Feb. 21. $15-$20. Feb. 5, 8 p.m.; Feb. 6-7, 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.; Feb. 11-12, 8 p.m.; Feb. 13-14, 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.; Feb. 19, 8 p.m.; Feb. 20-21, 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Duke Energy Theatre, 345 N. College St. 704-372-1000. www.queencitytheatre.com.
