THEATER: The Aluminum Show

Wednesday, Jan. 13

The Israeli-born, The Aluminum Show, looks pretty far out. Featuring special effects and lighting, acrobatics, dance, and shiny aluminum costumes with a cast bringing life to the slinky-like moving metal. This is the kind of thing that could spawn some deep thinking outside of the box, or it might just leave you contemplating what exactly you just watched. The show, which has been performed around the globe, has been described as being similar to other hit experimental productions like Mummenschanz, Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil and Stomp. $29 and up. Jan. 12-14, 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 15, 8 p.m.; Jan. 16, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Jan. 17, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 19-21, 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 22, 8 p.m.; Jan. 23, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Jan. 24, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 26-28, 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 29, 8 p.m.; Jan. 30, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Jan. 31, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Knight Theater, 430 S. • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
