THEATER: The Comedy of Errors at Johnson C. Smith University

Wednesday, Jan. 21

The American Shakespeare Center Touring Company will visit Johnson C. Smith University for a performance of Shakespeare's early work The Comedy of Errors. For those of you unfamiliar with this work, let me explain. The comical production focuses on confusion and mishaps, resulting when two twins (separated at birth) stumble into the same city. They don't know about each other and neither do the town folks. Free. 7:30 p.m. Johnson C. Smith University (Sarah Belk Gambrell Auditorium), 100 Beatties Ford Rd. 704-378-1000.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
