THEATER: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Wednesday, July 1

Got a golden ticket? Well, that's OK if you don't. You can buy a ticket (though it may or may not be golden) to watch as CPCC's Summer Theatre stage performances of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory -- based on the film adaptation by Gene Wilder of Roald Dahl's 1964 book. And don't forget to pack a candy bar for afterward, just in case you get a sweet tooth at the show. Through July 11. $7-$10. 10 a.m. CPCC's Halton Theater, 1206 Elizabeth Ave. 704-330-6534.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
