Two Plus One and Squared Closing Reception CL Recommends

When: Fri., July 27, 6-9 p.m. 2012
During one day in April, multi-media artists Andrea Vail and Rachel Emily Simpson arranged a collaboration in a studio at the McColl Center for Visual Art. Dubbed Two Plus One: A 5 Hour Creative Interaction, the two combined their visions and varying styles with ideas from 10 other artists who came out for the creative shenanigans. You can see the long-overdue outcome of the session, along with the works of other artists-in-residence, during the closing reception of the Squared exhibition. Squared is a presentation of symbolic squares represented through drawings, graphic works and installations by Caitlin Masley and Injoo Whang. Another highlight of the Friday event is the work of artist-in-residence Evan Danchenka, who has transformed his studio at the center into TranSound Plaza, an installation of music, film, and photography that utilizes headphones to emit sounds of street performers. Guthrie P. Ramsey will share his CD, The Colored Waiting Room, a collection of new music and collaborations with poet Elizabeth Schultz. Best of all, the whole shebang is free.
