Tyler Perry Goes Dark

Thursday, May 3

Tyler Perry returns to the stage after the phenomenal success of his film franchise. What's Done in the Dark is Perry's ninth effort and includes the usual laughs, truths and music. The audience is thrown into a hospital during the full moon, which has been know to make things interesting -- to say the least. David and Tamala Mann are back as Brown and his daughter Cora, whose mother, Madea, will unfortunately not make an appearance. Through May 6. Thu.-Sat., 8 p.m. Sat.-Sun., 3 p.m. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. 704-372-3600. www.ovensauditorium.com.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
