The Deal: Jane's Addiction/Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell returns with his first project in four years.

The Good: This doesn't sound like the Farrell that made the techno-laden solo album Song Yet to Be Sung in 2001. It's a happier, more grounded version that's fused with rock. He's brought along the talent -- former Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt along with guest appearances by Fergie, Flea, John Frusciante, Peter Hook and Peter DiStefano. "Only Love, Let's Celebrate" uses elements of Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate." The Chili Pepper influence of Flea and Frusciante can be heard on "Hard Life Easy." The album also goes punk for "Insanity Rains." The album also features "Woman In the Window" with previously unreleased vocals by Jim Morrison.

The Bad: It's still not Jane's Addiction. The album hits a couple of speed bumps with slower tracks, but it's listenable the whole way through. Though "Awesome" sounds a little too Julio Iglesias for me, it's not terrible. They'll be playing at this year's Lollapalooza -- in Chicago.

The Verdict: The hooks are there but without the pop. It shows Farrell, after helming Jane's and Porno for Pyros, hasn't lost his touch to make good music. Let's hope there's some longevity in this.
