Video games: Rock out

Friday, Feb. 1

Are you like the rest of young America? Addicted to a little game called Guitar Hero where you strum along on your ax-like controller to any and every rock song from Linkin Park to Lynyrd Skynyrd? If so, then you'll wanna hear this. A brand-new chance for you to show off those monster chops has presented itself. The Streetwise Music Guitar Hero Playoffs will be held every Friday in February starting tonight. Eight players per week will go head-to-head. You must be 18 or under to enter. Sorry, guy! Come out and see if you can pick up a few groupies in the process. 7:30 p.m. Streetwise Music Instruction, 14015 Independence Blvd. 704-882-5775.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
