Visual Arts: Through the Microscopic Lens

Wednesday, January 2

Ever wanted to go "through the looking glass," or in this case through the microscopic lens to find out just what it is that makes us tick? No, of course, you didn't and neither did Alice. All she wanted to do was play with the cute, little white rabbit. But, as we've all learned from repeated viewings of The Matrix, knowing everything isn't all it's cracked up to be. During Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies, we're taken on a thrill ride beneath the surface ... of the skin, into a world of sinews and muscle. Using Plastination, von Hagens has revolutionized specimen preservation and created a pretty damn creepy presentation in the process. The exhibition runs through Jan. 6. 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.; starting Dec. 31 - 9 a.m. - midnight. $16-$22. Discovery Place, 301 N. Tryon St. 704-372-6261.
