Works by Sharon Dowell and Nico Amortegui

When: Aug. 3-Sept. 6 2012
Colombia-born, Charlotte-based artist Nico "MALO" Amortegui's abstract works could be hailed as the creative offspring of art geniuses such as Pablo Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Amortegui's pieces are evocative of Picasso's deep colorful brushstrokes and funky shapes, and Basquiat's graffiti-like fusions and rough facial outlines. But Amortegui's works have a certain coolness to their chaos. See his vividly refreshing painting, titled "The Banker." Also showcased will be works by local abstract artist Sharon Dowell. Her paintings of urban buildings, stairwells and chutes are characterized by bold colors. Her details pop and exteriors reach exuberant levels.
