The 3rd Annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair

Posted By on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 4:21 PM

While the hustle and bustle of the holidays has come to revolve around shindigs and shopping, it's important to take some time to reflect on the spirit of charity and gratitude that the season should be synonymous with.

Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day, a day set aside to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic and its impact on our world. To commemorate it, this year the Harvey B. Gantt Center will host The Red Pump Project's 3rd Annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair. The gala will be presented by JSW Media Group and Chef Jay Jones of Chateau Noir, LLC as an effort to support the Red Pump Project's nationwide mission to raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls through education and open dialogue.

The “fashion-themed cocktail party” will offer attendees an evening of live music and entertainment, heavy hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction. A “Sexy, Stylish and Safe” runway show will also take place. Prominent advocates of HIV/AIDS awareness will also be honored for their contributions to the community.

$35 gets you general admission to the event, but a variety of ticket options are available. You can purchase your ticket here.

Yes ... there is a Santa!

Posted By on Fri, Nov 18, 2011 at 12:15 PM

fr_corpspon_macys_believe_v.jpg

Do you still believe in Santa Claus? I know I do. How else would I be expecting to wake up to lots and lots of wonderfully gift wrapped boxes of clothing, shoes and jewelry under my Christmas tree in this economy?

Seriously, the season isn't all about receiving — it's more about giving, and wouldn't you like to give in a major way that brings out the kid in you? Well, Macy's is calling on believers of all ages to help grant the wishes of local children as a part of the "Believe" campaign in support of area Make-A-Wish chapters.

From now until Christmas Eve, Macy's is encouraging children, teens and yes, even adults to write letters to Santa. The letters can be dropped off in the Santa Mail letterbox at NorthLake and SouthPark mall and for each letter received, Macy's will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish foundation up to $1 million. The money raised in Charlotte will support the Central and Western North Carolina chapter of Make-A-Wish and if you would really like to be one of Santa's Helpers, why not start a letter writing campaign in the office or with your child's classroom? Here's a few ideas for inspiration. I've already made my list, so get your pen and paper out and let the wishes flow!

Saks Off Fifth's ladies shoe sale

Posted By on Thu, Nov 17, 2011 at 2:09 PM

I stopped in to Saks Off Fifth at Concord Mills mall yesterday, and to my surprise there was a fabulous shoes sale going on. I thought I should be nice and share the news and not keep all the haute-ness to myself. The sale will continue through Nov. 29. With all ladies shoes at 40 percent off, I would suggest getting there as soon as possible.

Ladies, we all know how expensive a pair of Giuseppe's can cost you. But the first great thing is is that they're at the Outlet, which, by the way, does not just carry last season's styles. I can tell you as a previous retail buyer, much of what ends up in the outlets are items we overbought so don't be fooled. Secondly, with an additional 40 percent off, we're talking about purchasing a coveted black, bejeweled Guiseppe worthy of any little black dress for $227.99.

I also spotted the perfect pair of animal print shoes shoes by 5/48, which is actually one of the Saks brands. Animal print, especially leopard, is all the rage this season, so there's no way you can go wrong with these babies priced at $77.99.

-2.jpg

Another favorite was the super comfortable Frye boot. Frye is another brand that can be pretty expensive, but thank the shoe angels that these are on sale for $137.99. Need I say more? I loved almost every shoe I saw.

The only thing my "shopping partner" didn't love was the fact that men's shoes weren't on sale this time.
Oh well ... more shoes for me!

SouthPark Mall honors heroes with holiday program

Posted By on Thu, Nov 17, 2011 at 11:29 AM

Chronic shoppers, there's a cure on the way: It's shopping's most wonderful time of the year! SouthPark Mall has announced extended holiday hours, allowing both enthusiasts and procrastinators plenty of time to accomplish their holiday shopping.

Schedule:

Thanksgiving Day: Mall Closed

Friday, Nov. 25: 7 a.m.—10 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 26: 8 a.m.—10 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 27: 11 a.m.—7 p.m.

If you're feeling a little shallow about indulging in the shameless “buy, buy, buy” philosophy that seems to go hand-in-hand with holiday gift-giving, take comfort that SouthPark has not forgotten about the spirit of the season of giving. Along with other Simon Malls around the country, from Nov. 1-Dec. 31, SouthPark is partnering with the American Red Cross for their fifth annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program. HMH's goal is to distribute holiday cards to members of the military, veterans and their families.

Cards will be available at the mall's Simon Guest Services through Dec. 31, but on Black Friday, shoppers looking to share their sentiments with troops may write cards at both Simon Guest Services and the American Red Cross table in Circle Court.

Holiday Mail for Heroes hand-delivers the cards to military hospitals throughout the U.S. and also mails them overseas for delivery.
