Spring fashions from Belk

CL’s fashion editor Garlana Hill recently met with bigwigs over at Belk department store to get a sneak peek at their new spring fashions. Some of it was great and some, not so great. Here’s a look at the stuff she actually liked:

According to Arlene Goldstein, Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction, “Old will not do.” Belk’s Spring Collection has taken some of fashions most timeless silhouettes and reinvented them with the use of modern textiles. Wide leg pants, flirty tops, cropped jackets and the sheath dress, may appear obviously familiar to the fashion enthusiast. But, fabrics such as metallic linens, sateen, taffeta, and eyelet pump life back into these tried and true classics.

And oh, I should mention that Bermuda shorts are back; however, please proceed with caution. These are not for everyone. If your body type is not long and boyish, run swiftly from this trend.

Goldstein says that Belk especially wants to make it clear that they have not forgotten about their male customers. “Easy Fashion,” is the focus for the Men’s spring line. It invites the use of shots of color and accessories with a vintage vibe. So guys, you will have the opportunity to express yourself (safely, for those of you who don’t like to go too far). Until your next visit to the mall, let me introduce you to some of my favorite

pieces:

1. Black and white print dress by Dana Buchman, $395: Any woman who wears this will command attention with its bold Modern pattern.

2. Purple Dress by Democracy, $134: For the artist in you, this plush plum number is one to choose for a soft look. This dress is a great combination with a three-quarter length peasant sleeve, empire waist and an inviting neckline.

3. Bangles by Erica Lyons, $12.60-$26.60: Can’t get enough of those bangles. Soft colors wedded to feminine rosettes are just the right touch for the spring.

4. Sheath Dress by Donna Morgan, $136: Patent leather paired with class. Simple lines and a mid-sized high waist belt draw the eye to where it should be … on you. Great for work.
