Thousands mourn slain UNC student; Cops search for Killer: Eve Carson was a bubbly, bright 22-year-old senior at UNC-Chapel Hill who was shot and killed in a neighborhood close to the university. “We've lost someone who we cherish and love. We're all in a state of shock," UNC Chancellor James Moeser told the students who gathered in the school’s quad late Thursday afternoon. Police responding to a call about shots being fired at 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning discovered Carson’s Body lying in an intersection. "We are all hurting. We are all grief-struck, stunned," Moeser said.

5-alarm blaze in Salisbury; 2 injured: Firefighters from all over Rowan County have been called in battle a blaze at Salibury Lumber company. The fire started at Salisbury Millwork company. It broke out at 7 a.m. in an office building and spread to a manufacturing building. Two firefighters have been injured and taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center. As of 10 a.m. the fire has yet to be put out.

How ugly can it get?: With Obama riding the wave of change and hope, the Clinton campaign has been accused of trying to lure him into a down and dirty political knife fight. When Obama raised questions and Clinton’s tax returns and national security experience, she responded by accusing him of acting like Ken Starr. Later it was reported that an Obama advisor called Clinton a “monster” to a newspaper in Scotland. Of course the Obama advisor immediately apologized and made it clear that Obama believes that in no way should name-calling be involved in American politics.

Hamas claims responsibility for Jerusalem attacks: Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip claimed responsibility for the attack at a Jewish religious college that killed eight people. The gunman was 25-year-old Ala Hashem Abu Dhaim, who lived in East Jerusalem, who was shot dead by an army officer. Isreal’s government has said that the attack will not lead it to break off peace talks with the Palestinian Authority. A Hamas radio host claimed that the attack was “a jolting response” to the violence on the Gaza strip in which more that 120 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli military.
