Petraeus: Return to 'pre-surge' troop levels, then wait: The top military commander in Iraq testified today to the Senate Armed Services Committee that troop levels should reduce to numbers before last year's surge. Gen. David Petraeus also warned that Iran poses the greatest threat to Iraq.

534 women, kids leave polygamist ranch: 401 children have been placed in state custody, each with his or her own state advocate, as they were evacuated from a polygamist rance in El Dorado, Texas.

In violent weekend, 6 lives taken: From Lancaster, S.C., to Charlotte, six people were killed over the weekend. Among the victims was a 92-year-old woman who was stabbed during a robbery as she was coming home from church.
